About Tanner Woods

Shaped by the game. Driven by the story.

I've lived football from both sides of the press box — and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Passion: Football

Football found me early and never let go. Growing up, I was the kid who stayed after practice to throw the ball around more with my teammates, who read every sports column I could find, and who dreamed of being on the sideline. That passion has defined everything I've done since.

My coaching career began at the collegiate level, where I quickly learned that the game is about far more than wins and losses. I've worked with players at multiple levels, developing a coaching philosophy rooted in film study, fundamentals, and the belief that football teaches character. Every player I've coached has made me a better coach — and a better person.

The journalism side came naturally. I've always believed that the best sports writing comes from people who truly understand the game, not just the scoreboard. My work blends analysis with human storytelling, giving readers the coach's perspective they rarely get from watching highlights.

My Philosophy

The game teaches everything: discipline, resilience, teamwork, and how to handle both victory and defeat with grace. My job as a coach and a journalist is to make sure those lessons aren't lost.

When I'm not on the field or at the keyboard, I'm studying the game in every form — film, podcasts, books, conversations with coaches and players who've been where I want to go. Football is my classroom, and I'm always a student.
